Rite of the Hunt - Qannik

They had been stalking the moose for over an hour now, keeping a decent distance away so the soft orders whispered to the Tokota would not be heard by their prey.

Finally, when the moose stopped moving, Oki directed his partner to hide behind a large rock formation and quietly dismounted the large animal and unstrapped his dual headed spear. “Ready buddy?” He whispered.

Qannik’s ears flicked back and his head turned to the direction of the moose he was to bring down. He waited for his handler’s call.

“.... Go”

Qannik immediately leapt over the bolder and sprinted toward the moose. The moose’s ears and head shot toward the oncoming predator, and it turned to run… but it was too late. Qannik’s large paws clipped the moose’s hind quarters making it stumble, giving the Tokota enough leverage to clamp his jaws down onto his prey.

Quickly moving from the moose’s hind end to it’s neck, Qannik snapped it with a swift motion. Finally, the prey he had been stalking for the past hour was dead and his task was complete. Qannik sighed as the rush of the hunt left his body.

upon hearing Oki’s steps approaching, Qannik backed away from the now dead prey and looked up at his handler.
